...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AND GUSTY WINDS TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY, POSSIBLY LONGER... Invest 96W is currently rated as "Medium" by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, meaning tropical cyclone development is likely, but beyond 24 hours. It's currently located west of Ujae near 9.3N 164.4E. It continues to slowly organize and strengthen north of Kosrae/east-northest of Pohnpei. Inflow into the developing disturbance will allow for locally heavy rainfall to develop, with over 1 inch per hour rain rates probable from time to time. Rainfall totals will likely be 2 to 5 inches tonight through Thursday, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds will also increase as 96W strengthens, and at least isolated wind gusts to 30 knots are possible with any heavy shower or thunderstorm that develops. Gusty winds and elevated, choppy seas will make marine conditions difficult. Residents may need to reconsider plans for inter-island boating as the week continues. Also keep up to date with the latest information from your local emergency management agency.
