...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Bennington and Windham Counties in southern Vermont. * WHEN...Through Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms arrive this afternoon and continue through tomorrow with rainfall rates reaching or exceeding 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Despite recent dry conditions, such high rainfall rates in a short period of time can result in flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas. Areas that see repeated rounds of heavy rain will also be more at risk for flash flooding. Rain should taper to showers Wednesday night into Thursday. Expected rainfall amounts have increase to 3 to 5 inches for most of southern Vermont, with localized higher totals possible where the heaviest bands of rain occur. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
