...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON AKST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations 3 to 5 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 70 mph for Adak and Atka. * WHERE...Central Aleutians, including Adak and Atka. * WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to noon AKST Friday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Rain will change to snow for Adak and Atka tonight as temperatures drop to around 32 degrees. The combination of strong winds and snow may lead to near-blizzard conditions at times. The widespread snow will become more showery in nature through Friday morning. Snow showers and gusty winds may periodically reduce visibility through Friday night even after the strongest winds begin to decrease in intensity.
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
