...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM CHST TUESDAY... ...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Large breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents expected in the surf zone. * WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, west and north facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, west, north and east facing reefs of the Marianas. * WHEN...Until 5 PM ChST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Surf has incrased along west, north and east facing reefs with an increase in the primary northeast trade swell and arrival of a secondary north-northwest swell, associated with a southward-moving shear line. This has brought hazardous surf along west and north facing reefs of the Marianas, and a high rip current risk along west, north and east facing reefs. Swell and surf will continue to build along north and east facing reefs through tonight, but gradually diminish along west facing reefs as the primary swell energy shifts further to the north and east. Overall, a brief lull in swell and surf is expected on Tuesday. Then, a significant pulse of trade swell is expected to rapidly build across the Marianas, reinforced by a strong trade- wind surge behind the shear line. Surf will increase further and could become dangerous at times along north and east facing reefs, especially around Wednesday.
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
